In 1969 arrived in holy loch aboard holland. Transfered to uss canopus as-34. Onboard from holy loch to bremerton washington and was discharged. Then flew back to ohio. Re-enlisted in june of 1970. Reported to uss concord afs-5 in norfolk va onboard concord until april 1972.

No Department / Division / Shop : DC Division Comments: I went on board IN May 1966 in Rota, Spain. I remember the crossing of the Atlantic in 1966. We took a 38 degree roll in a storm, as fierce as the one everyone talks about on the trip back to Rota in 1968. I recall all the guys were thinking the boat missile Crane was going to cause us to roll over! I also recall being in dry dock in the Naval Yard in August 1968 and the temperature in the 100's and we had no air on the ship! I left the Navy in Sept. 1968. I had some good times and some not so good times! Everything considered, it was a learning experience for me! Does anyone remember the picture of the guy with the injured foot that hung in DC division? That's me! I had a little accident with a sheet of stainless and afterword, the whole division was issued steel toed shoes! I am told that picture hung there for years! I don,t know if that's true or not. No Department / Division / Shop : Repair/R-1/Pipeshop Comments: Reported aboard the Holland Jan 75 in my dress whites! Then proceeded to call the CPO of the watch "sir"...lol. But after that it got much better. We arrived in Scotland Nov 75. the first 6 month's at Site One was the worst time in my young Navy career. It was cold, and wet and i could' nt understand a single word the local's said. Thank god for the tennent's and fish & chips. We did work are asses off.. and we played even harder on the beach... I have seen very few names from my time on board the Holland here.I guess some of us still have not grown up.Or perhaps it's wake up  . However it is good to see nearly 3 generation's of Holland sailor;s on these pages.. Rusty, Timmy T, Jim W, Brad, Eric, Hank, if your out there let me know ur alive...

No Department / Division / Shop : S-1 / S-5 Comments: Greetings to all past shipmates of the World's Greatest Tender. Reporting to my first ship was quite an experience. Did my time on mess duty and reported to SKCS Wiands in S-1. Oh those crazy days and nights with the "Dunoon dollies and the HHC". After I got over the culture shock, I began to love Scotland and it's people. That feeling has lasted all these years. The fish and chips were the best. Warm beers and Bombay's curry. It was there I took up darts and I still play today. I met my second wife through darts and we have traveled back to the UK for international dart tournaments. Sadly, I haven't made it back to Scotland since I left but it is on my bucket list. There was something amazing in the friendships that were built there and then. perhaps it was that we were so young and away from home for the first time, or maybe it was that sign near the shuttle boats about how we are american ambassadors and our actions reflect on the ship, the sailors and our country. When we were on the beach we truly stuck together, after all, the Navy takes care of it own. Though I lost contact with those great men, I have managed to reconnect with several of my closest friends there. Mike Schneider, Mike Freddy, Mike Carey, Mike Samm, Tim Schmidt, and Ed Blenner. Long live the "Spades" Hall Of Fame, Fan Rooms, Haggis and the rain. Rest easy AS-32, rest easy.

People Those of you who were extremely exposed to radiation and tied ofile claims get in touch wth me please. I ended up with so many diseases it isnt laughable. I miss the sangria shack in rota. one day in my travels i will go back to se if any of the old places are still around I am traveling asia now teaching dating much younger woen and enjoying life. gf now is 31. I am still having adventures getting kidnaped shot stabbed swinded and surviving it al.
