Hello Lynn! I kind of did this backwards - just wrote a 40 page email at CD Baby, so, rather than repeat myself, if it doesn't come through for some reason, let me know and I will fill up your guestbook with well deserved accolades.
Living in the dreams-do-come-true world of the great NorthCoast in Eureka, at the edge of an endless redwood forest only 20 minutes from the ocean, as of '02. (The Davis is my family name - am still happily free, with a longtime platonic roommate).
From your samples, gave a sigh of relief at hearing the familiar voice and crisp guitar I have missed - your production skills proved quite impressive in that I heard what I would have wanted to hear. Finest kind.
Will write more, if the CD Baby thing is a bust, but know that you all have a unique place in my heart, music notwithstanding.....
yer old pal Vicki

Hi Lynn. Hope you are well! Alan Sheckter here, former arts editor (The Buzz) for the Chico E-R, who has now moved on to a rewarding job for a firm in Paradise that acts as a consultant for nonprofits. I'm also now a steady freelancer for the Chico News & Review, which brings me to the subject of this e-mail.

And yes, my deadline looms, so a response sooner rather than later would be great.

I'm carrying out a story I've wanted to do for some time now, which will chronicle the Chico music scene 40 years ago - in 1968. The San Francisco music scene from that time has been oft-publicized, but what about up here, when Chico, and its State College, were much smaller than today?

Did you see any concerts here in Chico, specifically in 1968? Can you tell me who you saw, the date, at what venue, who you attended the show with, and can you describe the show a bit and offer any anecdotal tales? (If you saw any in '67 or '69 here, please mention those too). If you had a ticket stub, or a photo, that would be super! Or, if you have a suggestion of a person or two I should contact, please let me know that too.

Also, I'm asking everyone - when did you move to Chico, from where, why did you come to Chico, and what would you list your occupation as now

Research has confirmed the following played Chico in 1968: Grateful Dead, Big Brother/Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, Bill Cosby, Herb Alpert, Al Hirt, Canned Heat, Grassroots , 5th Dimension, Lou Rawls.

Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Yardbirds may have played here in '68, and the Association, Mamas and the Papas and Ike and Tine Turner played here around that time.

While many local hipsters (most of the whole Spark 'n' Cinder family, Bob Littell, etc.) came to Chico in the early 70s, I believe you were here back in the 1960s.

Can I call you?

Thanks!
Alan Sheckter

Success! Well, of a sort. I finally worked out that SnoCap thing but had to buy the CD a second time. Why is it that everytime I get near to you I end up buying twice? You owe me a beer at the SN Tap Room ( and I don't even like beer). Either that or I'll bootleg the devil out of this puppy.

Ok, so I bought the CD, only some outfit with a cap of ice on it's head won't let me download it. Oh, well--at least I can say I bought a Lynn Brown CD, and after all these years who'd think I still cared. Oh, byt the way--who's watching the grandkids, huh?
