Fred & Suzanne,

I was speechless and tears began to flow when I opened your beautiful gift of Fred's handcrafted split reins.  The thoughtfulness behind the gift, and the exquisite beauty and craftsmanship brings tears to my eyes now as I write this.  I so deeply appreciate your kindness, and your insightfulness into what brings my spirit joy.

I fear that meeting Fred came in the blur of hiker season, and I can only hope that our paths will cross again soon.  Seeing your work, I am now a fan!  Suzanne, yours is a relationship that I will always treasure.  You've touched my heart. Thank you so much for your warmth and kindness.  I'm glad the trail brought you both to me!

Fred,

It was great to see you and Suzanne again.  It was also wonderful to see some of your recent work firsthand.  Your skill as an artist is exceeded only by your generosity as a friend.  My compliments to Suzanne as well on the very nice web page.  The combination of the beautiful reins you gave us and the great pictures on the web page have spawned a whole new following for you in Farson, so be prepared to meet a few of your fans when you come out this spring.  There are also a few saddle makers here I think you would enjoy tooling around with.

So glad we got to see both of you, and looking forward to seeing you again soon.

P.S. As a second-generation airplane crasher, I add my thanks as well for teaching us out here in Wyoming how to crash correctly (or, at least, non-fatally).

Fred,
You do fine work and I love your gifts but I value your friendship much more.  Please thank Suzanne for coming to my 60th birthday party and dinner in Monterey.  You have been part of and shared most of the best times of my life.  For almost 40 years you were there when I needed some one to be my friend and for that I shall always be grateful.  I look forward to the future memories we will share.  I'm sure there has to be one more trip to a mountain that we need to make.  Thanks for everything.  I'm sure I wouldn't be here if you hadn't taught me the right way to crash airplanes.
