Welcome to the

Alan Rickman Download Haven

Guest Book

The purpose of the Alan Rickman Download Haven Guest Book is for group discussion of Alan Rickman’s projects (old and new), news, information, and pictures.  Also welcome are questions, sightings, and reviews.

Our community is made up of many long-time members, and is continually joined by new AR fans.   As a new poster, you may want to browse our archives or lurk for a short while so you get a feel for our community.  We don’t have a lot of rules, but we do expect everyone to respect each other and to respect Alan Rickman.

When posting information or pictures you've found from other sources, please try to include credit for the hard working source that provided it.   Sometimes it may be impossible to remember where you found something and that is OK too because 9 times out of 10 another member will remember and post the information a little later.

AR fandom sometimes suffers from what our group has fondly come to call “AR Drought”.  Its these times, we find solace by digging deep into our AR archives and posting an old piccie  (or two) and/or an old interview.  These always seem to generate good fun discussion and often brings back some wonderful memories for some of our members.

When you want to post thoughts about one of AR’s films, you might want to consider using a flag such as *SPOILER* before you write your thoughts just in case someone hasn’t seen the film and doesn’t want to know about it ahead of time.   The Harry Potter phenomenon is so huge, it has its very own place.  Please find the link to our HP Spoilers Forum below.  You’ll find lots of good discussion about plots and theories in the realm of Harry Potter.

In addition, what’s a good friendship without some place to get as silly and squeely as humanly possible ?    Goodness knows AR gives us a lot to Squeeee about!  Our Alan Rickman Download Haven Discussion Party fits the bill for that particular part of our personality.  It’s a rip roaring party and there’s a lot of laughs and good times to be had by all.  We talk about anything and everything over there and would love to see your participation.
Finally, our Alan Rickman Download Haven Live Chat Room is a place to shoot the breeze with other AR fans in realtime.  Pop in any time and you never know who you will run into or what the topic of discussion might be.  It’s a great way for our members to get to know each other a little better, and to continue conversations not specific to the main ‘on topic’ board in as much detail as they’d like.  Lots of  AR-admiration goes on and laughs are had in the chat room!

There is a fantastic group of Alan Rickman fans from all over the world represented here and each person adds to the fun in their very own way.

Lurking is welcome but we would love for you to post your comments when you feel comfortable.

The most important thing to keep in mind is......HAVE FUN!

If you have any problems posting,
please don't hesitate to email one of us

Tea & Crumpets, I believe AR puts in brief appearances on BOTH discs.  He is in 2, maybe 3 scenes.  BTW the scene in Vidal's studio is a hilarious premonition of Ed the Painter in The January Man.

Ali-Pat, thanks so much for your kind and helpful reply.   OH, and I will be sure to keep Ed the Painter in mind, when viewing Therese Raquin.  I've not seen January Man in quite a long time, so perhaps it's time for me to view that as well!

Wishing you all the best!

This is cited on Wikipedia. Does anyone know of it/have it?

Alan Rickman appeared himself as Snape in a Harry Potter parody named "Louis Potter and the Philosopher's Scone" in Alistair McGowan's Big Impression show

BS had no nudity, only implied sex, very little cursing, no one was killed, no dumbed-down dialogue, and the only car chase involved a very old Gremlin. The critics probably couldn't handle a lovely movie that moved at a gentle pace.  Hubby and I both enjoyed it a lot. And as children of the 70s, we thought it accurately captured the era when wine was cheap, the clothes were coooool, women didn't wear bras, everyone had a pickup truck,  and sex wasn't a hazardous activity.

And although I liked the Kentucky Fried Chicken scene, my favorite culinary moment was the guacamole!

Gosh I don't know what to think of that report on the blog. I know that from my friend's reports, Randall and Jodi seem like the nicest and most down to earth people. And the PR people for Bottle Shock were all quite nice (according to her). So I wonder exactly who decided to do this lame ploy. If she tells me anything I can share, I'll report back.

God, enough of the villains comment already! Can't even BBC reporters come up with something original?

Many of the critics are commenting about Alan's character being a wine snob but I think a lot of them are movie snobs. If it's not clever then they can't like it because it'll make them look like idiots apparently. It seems feel-good factor is not one of their credentials for a good film. And that guy saying Sideways is Citizen Kane if Hollywood Reporter say Bottle Shock is Rocky - did he get the wrong end of the stick completely? I don't think they were talking about quality but the spirit of the movie.

Snokat, imho "small movie" is Teh reason...Although I haven't seen the film but only masses of interviews and trailors I dare say - again - that the media is the problem (and may be big film makers such as WB????). They like to tell us how great an xyz film of WB and the like is and most of them are really crap (at least for me and some people I know) with us wondering how on earth this actor or that actress could win an Oscar for that film. I wonder what is really happening behind curtains so to say....

Does anyone else think that all these reviews of Bottle Shock are a little harsh? Now, God knows I'd watch Alan clip his toenails and call it a master peace! And I'm not saying that is movie is "Citizen Kane." But all these comments about the storyline being weak or the character development being off or "it's at least pretty to look at" (re scenery) seem really harsh to me. I honestly think it's a better movie than all that! Maybe it's not going to break any box office numbers or win any Oscars or People's Choice Awards. But I found it one of the more satisfying movies I have seen in a while with a good story, great acting and perhaps I'm biased, but a great effort from a small movie maker. I think it deserves more praise then "it's a little like Sideways, but not."

I got to see Bottle Shock last night.  I had to drive to the other end of town because there was only one theater showing it.  It's the same theater I had to travel to in order to see Perfume on the big screen.  It's the only one that regularly shows indie films.  There were only about 9 people in the entire theater (10pm showing) but everyone seemed to enjoy it.  There were several laughs....many of them not at a delivery of a comic line but on AR's reactions to what was happening around him.  The man doesn't even have to say anything....just a well-timed facial expression and he steals the show!  All-in-all, not a bad film.  A must-see for AR fans and definitely one for the DVD collection.

Thanks for the link to that great interview, Sue!  That writer sounds like he appreciates AR almost as much as we all do.  I especially loved how he mentioned Snape in the context of AR's humorous roles.  How come more journalists don't see that??  It was his role as Snape that opened my eyes to his amazing acting.  In the "Page 394" scene, I remember watching him deliver that line: "Then I suggest you take extra care, Potter.  Loss of limb will not excuse you."  I burst out laughing, while beside me I noticed that my boys were positively squirming with empathy and outrage, and I remember thinking "this guy is *so* brilliant!"

Thanks very much Strad for posting the interview. Very interesting. A change from the usual platitudes.
I only wish people would stop calling Steven Spurrier a snob just because he has knowledge about a topic. A snob is someone who feels superior to everyone else and looks down on them, I am sure the real Spurrier feels quite aggrieved at this defamation.

Thanks Strad for that magazine scan. Nice interview.

I must admit that I'd forgotten that the Harry Potter movie was going to be this year's Command Performance film. I wonder if they will show it anyway just for the night or find a completely different film.
Whilst not a Harry Potter obsessive it does seem an awful shame to change the dates especially for the people who have scheduled a whole holiday around the Premiere.

That IS really awful! How can they postpone HP to next year's July - what a rubbish! Everyone is in the midst of their holidays here with probably no cinema nearby or perhaps - if lucky - a Spanish, Italian or Croatian one. Even on TV there is nothing interesting during the summer period, ha. SO STUPID. Well, Meli and Peek, we need to find another reason to meet in November, , may be an indie of one of the better fanfictions? LOL

I have to admit that I don't understand why the people who apparently would see HP in July wouldn't go and see it in November. They are the same people.

But all in all I would be lying when I said that I actually cared much about the film. "Nobel Son" is the film I'm truly waiting for.

rickmarvelous and others - I called the Indianapolis theater this morning to be sure the film was going to open tomorrow as planned (since its original opening date last weekend was postponed). Happily, it is. When I asked why it had been originally cancelled, I was told that the film had generated more interest than expected and some of the larger theaters opted to keep it longer than scheduled. That meant delays or cancellations for other theaters down the line.

So, it's great that the film is doing so well -- but disappointing for fans in places where it was completely cancelled.
