I did not know it when it happened but my life was affected at an early again by cancer and lead me to this mission. I lost my grandfather who was my best friend at an very early age. He was such a great mentor and friend. He taught me so many valuable lessons in life and I daily try to live up to the man you taught me to be. Thanks for all the great memories and I will never forget you.

In the year 2005 Loyd"s brother was diagnosed with AML.  He was at a race track when called by the hospital asking him to return home for a Test.  The test confirmed his cancer and  within in a week he was undergoing drastic chemotherapy.  He survived 6 month of Chemo. and Entire body Radiation plus stem cell transplants from Loyd when on May 2oth the following year God took him from us after a week of pure torture.  He was very determined to beat this thing and when he passed the diagnosis on the death certificate did not say cancer but rejection to the transplant of stem cells.  Anything that can be done to fight this terrible disease is well worth our efforts.  God Bless you Feryl for all the work you are doing and what you represent in this struggle for a cure.  We Love you  Grandma & Grandpa Redeker

Feryl - how impressive that you promote cancer awareness 24/7.  I have no doubt the judges at nationals will see the beautiful woman you are and how you have touched the lives of everyone around you!

I am 4th generation in the line for breast cancer....great grandmother, grandmother and now my mother.  My mom was diagnosed in November and had a mastectomy in December.  I never dreamed something like this would happen to my best friend and shook our entire family to the core.  However her surgery went well and she needed no radiation or chemo.  The doctor said because she had her mammogram the same time every year, we were able to catch it before it spread.  This alone should be an eye opener for all women - GET CHECKED!!!

Needless to say I now volunteer for American Cancer Society, Fight Like a Girl and Susan G. Komen=)

Feryl,

I want to start by thanking you for your tireless and unconditional efforts to promote awareness of cancer. As the daughter, granddaughter, friend, neighbor and colleague of heroes who have fought or who are fighting, I appreciate every minute, dollar and effort put toward bringing us closer to a cure. You are an extraordinary woman for devoting so much of yourself to this cause and for using pageantry to further promote the message.

Live... While I haven't lived with cancer in my body, I have lived with cancer around me in those I love. No one should have to live a moment like that and that is yet another reason we have to stay the course in this fight.

Learn...Cancer has taught me a lot actually. I know that it intends to destroy but through the eyes of the heroes I have met along the road, it breeds hope and community. We learn more about unconditional love and what it means to want to do anything you can for just one moment more. We learn that we have to live while we are at it and that it takes both rain and sunshine to create a rainbow.

Survive...I love this word just as I love the word HOPE. While I have lost friends and loved ones to cancer, they survive through the work we are doing. They survive in their memories and in the lessons that they have taught us. They survive in us and we must honor that through our work and actions.

Feryl, thank you for what you are doing. It is an honor to have met you and to be a partner in this fight. Because of people like you, we WILL get there.

See you on The Road to the Cure,
