Thanks for the link john, I have just had a quick look and bookmarked it for future reference.

It is up to date there are some photos of the new LNER  A1 class 60170 Tornado which only went into service about a year ago, it took around 20 years and a million pounds plus to build, but who cares its STEAM.

For all you Elvis fans. Watch this video with Celine Dion. I'm sure you remember this when it was on TV American Idol special. The cost to make it was around $100,000

Syd. I enjoy doing jigsaws on the computer and am always on the look-out for good photos, during my searching I came acrosss this site http://www.railwaypictures.co.uk as an ex-railwayman I think you might find it interesting. Don't be put off with the home page which just shows diesel/electric engines there are over 400 pics of steam engines, some of them excellent photos.

Joyce: A friend loaned me the DVD of Grey Gardens. I had not heard anything about it but found it very good. Both Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange were great. The story about the relatives of Jackie falling on such hard times was new to me I was surprised there was nobody to help the two women when the house was falling down.

I watched a film the other night at a college. "Grey Gardens".
Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.  Wow..what an interesting story of these relatives of Jackie Kennedy.Lived in filth and thought nothing of allowing 2 men in to document their lives, the house was a health hazard, but all the daughter wanted was her moment in the spotlight. Very well done no wonder Drew B got awards but so should Jessica.

Ah! one of the saddest songs "She's leaving Home" I just love it.

I remember when the Fab Four had their first TV appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. It was Feb 9th 1964.. Sunday night.
They sang the for opening" 'All my Loving'-'Till there was You'-'She Loves You'.

closing the show with..I saw Her standing There, and I want to Hold your Hand'.
The noise of the screaming teen age girls was deafening

I was up in Minot N.Dakota at the time..next morning was our bowling league...Well, I was the only English lass there..I was swamped by disgrunted women..telling me how "terrible" the four Liverpool lads were !! Their haircuts, the suits they wore..on and on... I was amazed,as I thought they were great! I told them to get over it,as the Beatles would be world famous in no time at all.  I certainly had a different opinon of some of those women after that episode. I think the long winters had got to them

Tarrah.

Susan, I'm not sure if I would enjoy that DVD or not, I have just been watching onof a cab ride on a diesel from Manchester to Barrow, what a mess the route is over the parts I know compared to when I las rode over them, 42 years ago, I get an urge to put my size 11s on and go and kick the people responsible for ruining the railways.

They have totally wrecked Bolton amd a lot of the way you can't see anything gor trees that have taken over the embankments.

I would be watching your DVD and seeing the line as I imagined it used to be, with proper locos (Steam ones) running along them tracks.

I'm a dinosaur when it comes to railways.

Syd.

Amazing how much Lennon and McCartney have touched us with their lyrics and songs.....this is one of them.  Ta f' the update Rose...r' Eric.

About "She's Leaving Home"

From the original Beatles Album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1967)

PAUL 1984: "I wrote that. My kind of ballad from that period. One of my daughters likes that. Still works. The other thing I remember is that George Martin was offended that I used another arranger. He was busy and I was itching to get on with it; I was inspired. I think George had a lot of difficulty forgiving me for that. It hurt him; I didn't mean to."

YouTube - she's leaving home

This is one of my favourite Beatles songs. Susan, do you know of any story behind these lyrics? .

Really had a good chuckle at Morecambe and Wise making breakfast to the tune of "The Stripper"  I wonder who came up with that idea hahhahaha.

Maura. We have this on Morecambe & Wise Vol 1 and the whole video is hilarious but I guess this one sketch is the best. They produced Vols 1, 2 & 3 and are hosted by Ernie Wise I think some of the videos came out after Eric died.
Susan. One railway line I am still interested in is the Colne to Skipton line, is this one covered by the DVD. A group called Selrap are trying to get funding together to re-open the line but it is doubtful if they will ever succeed. At the end of our back street in Barrowford Road was this line and as a lad I spent a lot of time along the tracks, up to the usual trick of putting a penny on the rail and seeing how big and thin we could get it after a few trains had run over it. Barrowford Road had a bridge over the railway and one night a coach party who had been out drinking stopped to let the blokes have a necessary stop. One fellow in a hurry ran and jumped on top of the wall and down the other side to be out of view of the ladies, what he didn't know was there was a 50ft drop onto the railway lines. The ambulance men said if he hadn't been stoned out of his mind he would have killed himself, as it was I think he only suffered broken legs. Happy days. Regards John

Syd,
just watching a DVD I got yesterday from ABC shop, it's called 'Railway Walks' with Julia Bradbury. She walks along the many miles of disused railway tracks of Britain, meeting local historians along the way. Very interesting stories and scenery..beautiful old stations. I think you would like this, look it up on Amazon UK. They are very quick, I recently got an order which took 4 days to arrive!!!

I'm only just ten minutes into the first episode...and hooked

The Street is depressing but some good acting and this is the man who brought us Cracker, Jimmy Mcgovern..he pulls no punches and I read somewhere that he filmed a lot in Liverpool and they got mad saying he was portraying Liverpool in a bad light ! !  so now he only says that the show is filmed in a north west town.

Susan early Sunday am, on my car radio there was a show dedicated to the Beatles and it was all about the time they did a show ontop of the recording studio..Thought of you..

Eveline ... same here I dont know it, good job they went to the Manchester royal infirmary last week..wonder if it's Denton area...Never recognised where they did the Inspector Frost series neither..here's a funny..

PREGNANCY Q & A & more!

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q : I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes university.

Q : What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational.
A: So what's your question?

Q : My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labour, but pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a cyclone might be called an air current..

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.

Q : Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labour?
A: Not unless the term 'child support payment' means anything to you.

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q : Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's nappy very quickly

Q : Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A: When the kids are in university.

It didn't stop him going for a pint though.
