Just back from Austin..Catherine's B/day party. What fun with twenty + little girls all talking at once.

When there, just up the road in Killeen,at Fort Hood was the most horrendous shooting ever on a US Military base..I am sure everyone heard about it. They have brought the shooter down here to San Antonio's Fort Sam Houston (BAMC) I am sure Terry is familiar with Fort Sam? Seems like the world has gone mad :-((

Thank you r'Eric for a wonderful site..only had a quick looksee, but amazing how there are so many great places in our old home towns that we didn't know about or had forgotten. Will get back to it soon. I loved the Affleck's do over.

I am off to watch some footie this morning on Fox channel. Glad you are doing well Joyce, the bath episode was no fun for you..I remember earlier this year when I had my op and was wrapped on both legs..not allowed to take off wrappings...taking a shower with trash bags tied around legs is no fun. I finally found proper leg covers (waterproof)  Thank the lord it was only for three weeks.
We have fog this morning..almost like back in M/c..not!

Adios.

My physiotherapist is the original Nurse Cratchett...wow she likes to work you hard..It was take your children to work the other day,so she took 2 of her sons with and after the work day finished she asked them what they thought of her work,
One summed it up so easily, he said , " you go to people, put them through excercises which are painful and tell them it will make them better" . I think that is about right..

Ged went for the longest time telling me he could smell perfume, so he used to say the pefume lady was around , he got quite upset hat I could not smell it. Even in the car. One day when he was lay down I went up stairs and got a talculm powder container that was my Mum's and knocked the bottom gently, he jumped up and said the perfume lady was here again. So I shown him and he was quite happy to know Mum ws close by. Amazing the things that happen...
we will never know ..

Rose, I believe that I have been looked after all my life, at one time I used to make jokes about my hard working guardian/guiding angel who put in a lot of overtime keeping me out of trouble, but as I got older I realised that this was actually happening and stoppeed the jokes, since elaine died I have noticed subtle changes in my "protection" which are her personal touches.

I thought it was P Margaret and Lord Snowdown in the Royal box?? She just smiles, but Tony's expression shows he takes it as an insult.

I had a similar experience of the spiritual kind a few weeks after Elaine died, each time I was sat watching TV, I didn't see or hear anything but I knew she was in the room with me.

I firmly believe she is still looking after me because ever since she died things have happened , good things, to me that are the kind of thing she would have done when she was still alive if she had had the power to do so.

Love is the most powerful thing in the world.

On this day, not only did that 'Guy' light some fireworks in London (that was back in 1605) but, on this day in 1963 another guy stood on the stage of the London Palladium and said words similar to 'Those of you in the cheap seats just clap your hands, those in the expensive seats just rattle your jewellery' - that guy was of course John Lennon and one of those in the expensive seats was Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

JOYCE :-  Regarding your story about your "dream" after Ged died.  My eldest sister was only 50 when her husband died (aged 53).  In the months after his death she was (obviously) run down and grieving and one night she went to bed not feeling well at all.  Now, she is one person who will never say she beleives in ghosts or UFOs or anything considered "fanciful" BUT, she said , that night she felt a presence in the bed beside her, she rolled over and her husband was there, I asked her what did he do or say? she said he just smiled at her and she reached out and then he disappeared.  I asked her did he look like a "ghost" she said no, he looked like he would in real life.  She said it didnt scare her, it made her feel better.   She said whether it was a vivid dream or not, it felt very real at the time  to her.

Dennis: sounds like a storm in a tea-kettle. NO ONE has bought a 1,000 pound ticket and no one is likely to. Norman Baker is ranting about how you can fly to N.Europe for only 30 pounds. How about the cost to just GET to the airport...then car park fees if you have driven there. Taxi at other end..hotel costs etc. Yes, it is astronomical.

My neighbour went on a Trans Canada train trip..a few weeks ago
Very costly, but well worth it she said, and the scenery
was breathtaking..so I suppose it is what you want...hurry,hurry or leisurely trip :-) BTW speaking  of trains. One of the richest men in US,Warren Buffet, has just bought half ownership in Northern Burlington and Eastern railroad. He claims it's a bargain, to move as many goods by train compared to semi trucks.and the cost per mile is so low,to say nothing of the petrol costs for the semi trucks and clutter-up of hiways by same trucks. Forget how many millions he spent.but it was $100 per share.
Joyce: glad to know of your getting about, but do be careful lass, don't overdo it,you too 'r Eric.

The Bronte family. One of the best books I have read on that family is:"Dark Quartet" by Lynne Reid Banks. you can buy it on Amazon Books used, for very little. My daughter and me ( I ?)went on the tour to Haworth in the wilds of Yorkshire some years ago. Went on tour of the Parsonage, fascinating

and to see those tiny, tiny books they wrote when they were very young (theyare under glass) and the old worn large dog's collar of Emily's dog. I had just read that book a few months b/4 and everything was as written. That brother of theirs was a nee'r do well and spent too much time in the "Black Bull" also using morphine

Anne: later on re-ghost tour sounds fine. Susan, I watched the Jay Leno show last night,he had on two young guys from Oz,Hamish and Andy. They do this 'Ghostwalking" bit. they wear track suits, and on the main street they take turns getting behind say a man and they start to walk very close behind him..without the person knowing he is behind him..try to see who lasts longest
b/4 the person realises they are there. Couple of nut jobs..but funny. Is this the latest craze over in OZ. It soon will be over here after last night's show..everyone loved it.

Tarrah.

First £1,000 rail fare criticised

The UK's first £1,000 ticket has been described as "scandalous" and "appalling value" by opposition MPs.

The first-class return walk-up fare is from Newquay, in Cornwall to Kyle of Lochalsh, in the Scottish Highlands.

The Conservatives blamed "Labour's micromanagement of the railways", while the Lib Dems called the record fare "a very unwelcome landmark".

Cross Country Trains, which sells the ticket, said an advance fare was available for £561.

Price doubled

The fare was unearthed in a survey by rail expert Barry Doe, who said that the price of long-distance journeys had risen by up the three times the level of inflation since privatisation in the mid-1990s.

Mr Doe told the Evening Standard newspaper that even the £1,002 ticket had been available for £486 as recently as September 2008.

Three train companies share the 1,700 mile (2,736km) return trip - First Great Western, Cross Country and Scotrail.

Mr Doe pointed out that on the first leg of the journey (Newquay to Par) and the last (Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh) there were not even any first-class carriages for the ticketholder to sit in.

A spokesman for Cross Country said: "No-one has actually bought this £1,000 fare but it does exist.

"Someone wanting a first-class return would be likely to book a saver return in advance and pay £561."

'Takes the biscuit'

Cat Hobbs, from the Campaign for Better Transport, claimed the £1,000 journey showed "just how pricey and complicated the fare structure is".

And while regulated fares will actually fall slightly from January because of retail price deflation, she said she feared train companies would raise their unregulated fares to make up for the drop in their income.

"We think the government should step in and review how they regulate fares," she said.

"The government should not let the train companies take all the flak for this. It's up to the government to change the system."

Lib Dem transport spokesman Norman Baker said high fares were encouraging people to abandon the trains in favour of their cars.

And he added: "When you can fly halfway across Europe for £30, the idea that you can end up paying £1,000 for a train journey in Britain is absolutely scandalous."

Shadow rail minister Stephen Hammond said: "Due to Labour's micromanagement of the railway, farepayers have become all too used to appalling value for money.

"Today's revelation of a £1,000 fare really takes the biscuit."

John,
Not the solar, I took the other option and got the roof insulation. Our rebates were only $1600 - for either solar or insulation... (but i wanted the thicker 4.2 batts so it cost me $500 on top of the rebate) $8000 seems a lot.
Our rebates have now been cut back to $1200, so Im glad I got it done when i did.
I hope it makes the difference in summer..if today is anything to go by, 38.2 deg C !! its been our first hot day..and I've had enough already and its not even summer!!

Susan. Did you manage to take advantage of the government solar rebate. We had a 1kW grid connected system installed last Thursday for $0.00 by a company called FreeSolar based in Brisbane, they were able to do the job within the $8000 rebate. With the sun shining as it is at the moment we are generating almost half of our daily usage and feeling very 'green' saving some carbon emissions. Pity the government have now virtually halved the rebate but there are still some good deals to be had. John

Joyce,
we just had the new mini series 'Wuthering Heights' on, it was filmed in Yorkshire (obviously)..but at a manor house called 'Oakwell Hall'..its in Bronte territory..anyway, I was thrilled watching the show as I have been in that house. Reason Im saying it is..when we were there, walking through the room etc, we came into the main bedroom..and, I could feel there was someone else in there..and was actually drawn to a small chair beside the bed. when we left, I mentioned this to my cousin Mark, who was there with us..and he said he felt it too.
Its a beautiful old house..you can see it from the website, they have apicture gallery.. http://www.friendsofoakwellhall.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=1&Itemid=34

look at the time I write these I am the haunted.
I have had strange occurences, but I do treat this quite seriously, I do have a serious side..In hospital I was forever being poked in the back or side. No one there of course.
I told Ged to go bother someone else, then my daughter told me that things were being shifted around in her house so then I told her to tell " someone" to stop messing about it was scaring her. After Ged died I had an incredible dream that was wonderful, when I woke up I was so thankful for it and will never forget that dream and they say if it was a dream you forget it and if it was spiritual it was a message..
ok off the soap box back to bed for a little read...
