Comments: I am officially named Dorothy, after my aunt (who my father was not fond of ...) so before I even left the hospital as an infant I was called Dodie - not quite the same spelling, but he and my mom told me it was Dody and her laughs on the Jack Paar Show that got me delivered! I have really loved being part of her legacy - older folks remembered her from Jack Paar, and younger-ish ones from Soap. No matter what, she made people laugh and I strive to do the same - a gracious lady, a good sport, and a quick wit - thanks for giving me your name, Dody.
Comments: When Dody was on the Jack Paar show i was obsessed with her. Every Sat. I would go into Manhattan and stand outside her apartment building waiting for her to come out, just so I could say hello to her. Many Saturdays she would say "Lets go have coffee" and we'd go across the street to the Horn and Hardart coffee shop and have coffee and fruit salad. Heaven only knows what she must have thought of a 15 year old girl, who today would be guilty of stalking her, but she was always so nice and so friendly to me. She was a wonderful person then and I'm sure she remained one til her final day.
Comments: Dody was one of the sweetest persons I’ve known and I’m going to miss talking to her and asking her my silly showbiz questions. She’s likely conducting school with Eve Arden again, in Heaven, and taking Drama Class at night with Vivian Vance who has likely brought along Lucille Ball for a comedy play. I can only hear Dody’s voice now on her LP “DODY GOODMAN SINGS?” and on CDs “LORELEI” and “SHOESTRING REVUE” or in “Grease” and “Grease 2”, saying with chocolated hands, “Yes Miss McGee, I just had my hands on them” and Eve saying, “Oh good, they’ll be nice and smudged”. Dody had a lovely home in NYC with her cat Nicholas whose teeth she had cleaned by the vet regularly! In FEB.2003, Dody, Glen and I walked from her home to see the movie “Chicago” nearby. That same month Dody performed with Richard Skipper at the TRIAD. The blizzard of 2003 prevented me from going home and I was thrilled to see DODY sing onstage there at the Triad. A year later Dody sang with “The Singing Experience” and afterwards we walked her to her taxi, still wearing her formal gown. In her appearances, I saw her sing, “South America Take It Away”, “I’ve Got Tears In My Ears From Lying On My Back In My Bed While I Cry Over You”, “Oyster Song” and “The End of the News”. We once took Dody to dinner for her BIRTHDAY and she chose Chinese Food near her home and another time we picked her up to go to Glen’s for home-made cake and she showed us her film of her BOOK ‘Women, Women, Women!’ which she had hopes of doing a tour with. Her book is filled with photos of her posing in amusing situations and events; she was VERY comical! When she autographed her book and LP for me, which I got on Ebay, she said “I’ve made it to Ebay have I!”. She had Glen prepare 8x10’s of her so she’d have them ready for Celebrity Conventions. We often gave her a ride to and from Richard’s summer parties and NEW YEAR’S EVE parties and once Dody’s dish for the party came from the ‘Hot and Crusty’ store, she said. I last saw her in MAY 2007 when she won the MAC Lifetime Achievement Award and I gave her a kiss but did not realize that would be the last time I’d see her. A beautiful career tribute that Glen made was shown to the audience and it can be seen also on Dody’s ‘VIDEOS’ webpage. Thanks to Glen for his webguy work which shows Dody’s career that is full of so many good achievements that we all appreciate her for. I would like to have had one more chance to see and talk again with Dody, whom ALL of us love VERY much.
Comments: I have had the honor and pleasure to have produced her last recording, "Tears On My Ears" (in 1998?) at my recording studio just across Broadway where we both were neighbors. By the year 2000, she and my late Mother became acquainted through our lunches at The City Diner on 90th and Bway, where, Dody and I would run into each other almost weekly. I brought her to Joe Franklin's office to interview on his early morning show and everyone was delighted to have her, while they played her newest recording on the air. Over the years, I saw her health first-hand deteriorate but I kept calling her; checking in on her to offer her some much needed support. She did have an extended family of nephews and nieces who were always there for her and that was a relief to most who knew her. The last time I saw her, she was being wheeled by her loyal and hardworking caregiver. I said hello to Dody; she raised her head and said hello Larry (in that voice that was still going strong) and she still remembered me... That was about five months ago. Two weeks ago I called Joe Franklin and asked him if he would want to visit Dody. He immediately said YES and said that we would go in his car asap. I was getting ready to remind Joe when I heard the bad news on Monday. I never got to say goodbye to that wonderful, fiery, and multi-talented artist. One we will never forget.
Comments: One of the first things you see when you are introduced to Dody Goodman is a heartwarming, beautiful, sincere smile. I've had the privilege to be in her presence and experience her sensational aura; grace, humour and beauty.Dody was truly one of a kind; her bright blue eyes said it all. She would always greet me with exuberance and kindness as I,looking on, saw my mother give great care to her.My mother is the duaghter Dody never had and she loved her dearly. Dody, you will be sadly missed but there are millions of memories here that a lot of people shared with you. I thank you that I was one of them.
Comments: I LOVED this lady in "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman". She was such a delight. I am very sorry to hear of her passing! My deepest sympathy!
Comments: I forgot to mention to DEAR JOAN YOU WERE A WONDERFUL NIECE AND DODY LOVED YOU ALL. Your help to her was so great. Also to the family and friends I spoke with Ronnie Claire Edwards better known as (Cora Beth Godsey) on "The Waltons" in which she sends her condolence as She has no computer to post a message.
Comments: I leave this today as a torch bearer for our holy father and a few memories about DODY in which we are here at this website. This is such a sad reminder of the day in 1989 when I lost my friend which Dody had known for many years and we had to say goodbye. BUT after 20 years of conversations on the phone OR My visits with her in New York another shining star IS NOW gone as I wrote in my tribute to Raymond one large hole of emptiness was present in myself and today there are now many." We are not suppose to cry But be Joyous to this passing. I have many photos and the Christian Science Books etc. She would send me as she thought I should not be a Methodist. I recall as my memory lets me that we had many interesting and sometimes very detailed and complicated conversations on the phone #799-3005 a number now which I will tear out of my lengthy LV phone book. I sometimes was her sounding board when she felt unsure. Dody has left behind a legacy in each of our minds and hearts which she expressed to me in one of our last conversations, "I will probably never work again" she said after her fall. Then our phone conversations became less valuable talks to while still in her high rise with a slurred speech BUT we talked and sometimes I prayed while she listened. AS I know each one of us hold something in our being maybe as a special thought, remembrance or moment about DODY THIS will follow us for many years to come and The old adage "Gone BUT not forgotten" is the only way I can explain my feelings now. And this encompasses us all. The funny times and the best incidents which crossed our paths throughout our lives here on this earth and I thank god that Dody Goodman was apart of mine. Soft spoken is my first recollection, but not another voice like hers and She is going to be so deeply missed by all who knew her BUT one day we shall all meet again. I would like to close with a poem I wrote for DODY which I wrote after finding out the bad news of her death. Though I suspected it would not be long as I knew when I called her private Actors Home number her nurse would tell me her condition. Today here gone tomorrow IS the flowering heather in the meadow. Though the sent is still as strong as if only yesterday I had inhaled the sweet aroma of the living. But hence the leaves are withering in the grassy meadow and the fragrance is slowly fading away. My memory is what I hold as the sound of a rushing brook or a river that still calms me and my failing memory, BUT I can still see the dew placed by god on the leaves like tiny diamonds glistening in the morning sun.The BEAT is rapid and my mid races to only know If I loose something dear to me then "I have the memory" which NO ONE can take away from me. I may loose everything else BUT a memory is ALL mine "I OWN IT" so this can never be taken from my thinking mind. Comments:  I am so proud to have been a personal friend of Dody's for the last 10 years. Three years ago, I invited her to my home for dinner. I felt like baking a cake for the occasion and presented it to her for dessert. She was so delighted, and made faces and fun of the cake. She always had the craziest expressions whenever she did anything. I really enjoyed having her in my home just as much as I enjoyed my visits with her in her own home. Being a cat lover myself, I loved her kitty, Nicholas, pictured on this site. I took those pictures. She was so gracious and funny at the same time. Everything she said and did was funny. I will miss her terribly. She will be missed by all very much.
Comments: Words cannot express my feeling for my beloved Dody. I worked with Dody for 3 years until her passing, she was everything to me. I miss her very much. Dody my love, no-one will ever replace you. I will cherish that kiss we share Saturday morning you held my hand and said, "I'm waiting for you Sunday night". It never happened. Dody you leave me hanging. I LOVE YOU. YOUR FAVORITE NURSE\CAREGIVER.
Comments: I met Dody once 20 or so years ago at a spa in Ojai... a dinner conversation with her and a few friends still brings a smile, Dody, thanks for the memory.
Comments: As a young mother, I worked as a waitress at Ships Coffee Shop in Culver City, across from what is now Sony Studios. It was still MGM at the time. Dody was a regular visitor and I enjoyed her visits immensely. She was always friendly. A very kind and warm person. I have remembered her fondly and I am greatly saddened by the loss to all of us with the passing of a funny, gifted, lovely person. Adios Dody. I will miss you.
Comments: I am Dody's great-great niece. It is wonderful to see how many friends and supporters Dody has. It gives me comfort that she left this world with many fond memories and friends. Though I only saw her on rare occasions throughout my life, Dody always left such a wonderful impression on me. When I was a kid, I had the fortune of being an extra in a film that was being shot at a building here in Portland, Oregon. (About three years ago, I moved into an apartment right across from the building, so the memory of being in a movie as a kid remained.) The last time I saw her in good health was at my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary (we also recently lost my grandmother as well--next year would have been their 60th.) I remember being astonished at how independent and energetic she was, and at that time she was in her eighties. A few years later, I heard a rumor that she tried out for the movie Bewitched and was miffed about not getting the part. She was always young at heart. When I visited her in the hospital after a stroke, her personality still shined and she was seemingly as witty as ever. Every subject led back to a production in which she played a part. She seemed to stay mentally sharp by recalling these wonderful memories. Thank you for everyone's support for my family and my aunt. I know she loved you all, including all of her wonderful fans!

Comments: Dody was a true one-of-a-kind legend. I first met her through her close friend James Coco. I deeply regret her passing, but celebrate her long, prosperous life. She will be missed.
Comments: I saw her daily at the actor's fund home when visiting my mother. Last month I read Patrick Dennis' biography to mom - of course she knew him as the author of Auntie Mame but didn't realize Dody was one of Patrick's madcap crowd, so next I read Mr. Dennis' 'FIRST LADY" and "LiITTLE ME" to her. If you haven't seen them enjoy the marvelous photos of Dody, Peggy Cass, et al., posing as the characters gamboling through their outrageous adventures. - The Dennis bio "Uncle Mame" also contains some marvelous Dody anecdotes and stories as she was interviewed for the book. She was a wonderful actress and a marvelous presence. I hope she and her old friends are racing around on another plane laughing, partying and carrying on.

Comments: I had the joy of working on stage (or really off stage) with Dody in 1972 in Oklahoma City's MUMMERS professional theatre where she was Dolly Levi in Thorton Wilder's "The Matchmaker." This of course is the play on which the musical "Hello Dolly" was based. It has several wonderful thought provoking and touching monlogues which Dody shined at performing. She was always in character on stage, but oh what a Character. A few years later I had lunch with her out Hollywood when she was in Mary Hartman. I'm sorry to hear of her passing, but she will live on happily in many of our hearts and memories. Love ya, Dody!
