Where are you now? Homosassa Springs, FL
Comments: Hey Joyce, glad to see you finally made an appearance here! Between you, I and Carl, the 70's has a strong contingent!!! It was hoot having you & I together again as band parents with our kids at Southeast, especially with our parents in the stands. I wonder if our kids realize what an event that was.

My name is Chuck Berkhouse. I played trumpet for several years at Norwin...........was involved in stage band, concert band, county band, chorus accompaniment, played taps for local military funerals, played for the marine annual beef roast at soldiers and sailors downtown, played in downtown irwin during the christmas holiday, and basically got involved in anything I could with "the band" while I was in high school/jr high school. Unfortunately I do not play trumpet more but I am still involved in music. Since graduation in 87 I really started getting in to electronic music production.
I've been out of school for over 20 years now (man do I feel old, 1987 grad!) and sometimes I think about how LJ helped me come out of my shell. He seemed to care about my music career and was very nurturing of it.......which helped me gain more confidence in all aspects of my life. Also, I really appreciate how LJ would get us to focus in and have us practice until everything was just so. He was demanding, but I see now (having teens of my own) how that is needed in our development in to young ladies/gentlemen. I also am glad that I did get a chance to come back to the school (I live in Harrisburg, PA now) and visit LJ before everything "went down".
Anyway, I'm rambling on and on.
I thought you might like to check out the material I've been doing. Maybe you can play in as background music at "the loft" if you like. You can check it out here:

Where are you now? S.E. Wisconsin
Comments: Wow, how the time has flown, but it's great to catch some updates and think about the old times!
Updating my info; my wife, daughter and I live in Milwaukee (not far from U.W. Whitewater (in fact we have a friend who teaches there)). We ended up here as she took a teaching position at a local Uni, and we decided we liked the area (except the winters... I REALLY am tired of snow!).
I'd love to hear from anyone from back then, so please feel free to drop a line!

Where are you now? State of confusion - aka Ohio, New Waterford to be exact.
Comments: Hey Joyce Crummy --> when did you graduate to the drum line? I seem to remember you marching a clarinet. You COULD have played the honorable alto sax like your brother Allan(Sp?).
Joyce tells me there is a reunion coming up. Ah, memory lane strolls!
Times have changed, haven't they? We used to march 8-to-5 or 6-to-5 in squads of 4 and in a "military" style. Now there is a 'pit', band personnel march in curves (instead of straight lines), there doesn't appear to be 'squads of 4', and the props!?!?! The shows still look great though!
Oh yeah, and does anyone remember how Mr. Radzevick would always remind us, "Win, lose, or draw, you WILL maintain your military bearing while you are out on the field!". It was a good lesson in discipline and working as a unit to get a job done.
OK, time to stop yapping. All the best to you. The Norwin Band has an excellent history. Here's to all the current band members who will be making more history!

Hey! This is really great! It is fun to read through the comments. After I graduated from Pitt, I moved to Florida. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would end up back here but my husband is from Franklin so we moved back to PA. I am currently a principal of an elementary school. We have two terrific children, Luke is 10 and Emma is 7. I have many fond memories of the Norwin Band. I played cymbals in the percussion line. I would love to hear from anyone.

Where are you now? Bradenton, Florida
Comments: Comments ummmmm. Well Carl Landis, how can you be out of school 34 years, when I am out of school 35 years, and you graduated one year before me???? Best Time was spent in the Drumline of Norwin High School. Many memories that will always remain. Kennywood, Toronto, Ohio....Great Band then and now. Was freaked out a few years back, when Melanie Davis and I showed up for band camp, because our kids went to the same high school. What is even more weird, is her parents who were involved at Norwin and my parents who were involved both live here too. It was a great experience for Melanie and I to stand on the field with our kids, and still have our parents watching us from the stands. Our parents are in their 80's. Now that was a great feeling not too many of us can say. Mel moved up state Florida, but then this...both Barb and Bonnie Blake lived in my neighborhood with their husbands. One to the left of me and one to the right of me. Norwin Band members still find each other. We all live in Bradenton except Mel, which is the Spring Training home for the Pittsburgh Pirates, which still gives us that attachment to back home. Any oldies from 1970-1973 drop me an e-mail

Comments: 1971-1974 -- Interested in finding out if & where there may be any recordings or movies of the Class of 74's marching band performances. I would love share our performances with my kids who both were in their high school band down here in Florida. I'm sorry, but no one did it better than the Norwin Knights Marching Band!!! Greetings to Craig Staudimeir (I know I butchered that) and his wife Meredith Sutter and Kurt Ryan.

Comments: I am working towards my second masters. I teach at Norwin High School. Who would have thought. I live in Pgh and I love NYC. I am much more the city girl than ever before.
Kim - remember the Flux capacitator and the Fab Four. Disney World 93.
In reference to someone's previous comment, I agree that the band needs to go to more prestigious competitions. Also, winterguard members of 90-91, one of my students is a guard member. They recently returned from nationals in Ohio. They did not make it to finals and were told they may not return the following year because of their scores. It reminded me of us earning 2nd place and Bruno telling us that we did not do our best. But I believe otherwise.

Comments: WOW!! What a GREAT site to share special memories and the pride of the one and only NORWIN BAND.
I am from the class of 1976, so I guess I can be considered a semi-dinosaur!! Craig Staudenmaier and Kurt Ryan were two very influential mentors (you guys were the BEST). How can I ever forget all the HOT summer practices, parades, competitions, football half time shows, and most of all friendship. These are times I will NEVER forget and have made a positive impact in my life.
My family was very involved with Norwin Band. Starting with my brother Carl Landis who was a Field Conductor (sorry Carl I cannot remember when you graduated), myself, and my sister Beth (class of 1977).
Hope to see more alumni check in! Miss you all and the good old days.
