Your City or Town? Enid, Oklahoma Comments: Great job on the photos, Ron, and great job on the reunion program, Alumni Board! Every time I go to one of these things, I am reminded about how lucky I was to grow up in Oak Cliff in the 50's and 60's and how lucky I was to go to Adamson. I was moved when I heard that the modern Leopardettes are going back to twirling and that the athletic teams are going back to blue and white......in other words, back to the roots. I was impressed with what Coach Ragsdale had to say and I am sure going to try to get back to Dallas for the Adamson/Sunset rivalry renewal game on September 7. I can't believe they ever stopped playing each other and you could still feel the intense sense of rivalry in the auditorium when the name Sunset was brought up! "Slaughter the Bisons, we want meet". Right, Lon?

Your City or Town? Dallas, TX Comments: Hello Everyone. Just a couple things I wanted to update yall on. The Homecoming Game has been moved to THURSDAY September 20th, 2012 at Kincaide Stadium. The Athletic Department downtown accidently double booked the stadium and has moved our game to that Thursday. I know this may be an inconvenience and I apologize for that. I am not a big fan of Thursday games to begin with and with it being homecoming I know it makes things a little harder for yall. If you do not receive emails from me from time to time regarding Adamson Athletics and would like to be added to the email list please send an email to me at kaorder1999@yahoo.com and request to be added to list! Go Leopards! Coach Ragsdale

Your City or Town? San Antonio, TX Comments: It is with great sadness that I pass along the news from Karen Butler Nash ('65) on the passing of her father and former Adamson ROTC Instructor Sgt Arness this past Thursday. Many of you probably remember his dry sense of humor and military tact with both ROTC cadets and ROTC sponsors. His services were at Laurel Land 3/12/12. He will be missed.
Your City or Town? Overton, TX Comments:
I've probably missed a lot of the communications re: Adamson's historical place in the Oak Cliff community, and I'm sure ya'll have considered/contacted the City Council's Economic Development Committee about funding.
However, if you haven't, EDC's consider these kinds of requests: potential venues that bring folks into the community where they spend money, or businesses that manufacture goods or hire locally, to bring in additional money.
EDC's receive their moneys from tax dollars.
In Overton, our EDC provides money for the promotion of the Overton Bluegrass Festival, a non profit organization that annually holds a two day music festival. (where folks listen to music at City Park, but eat, shop, and buy gas in town.)
The festival has also received grant money from The Texas Commision of the Arts; many Texas artists have performed in years past..
Wouldn't the Adamson Foundation be eligible for funding?
Lon Oakley has written a book about the Oak Cliff Community. Michael Martin Murphey has performed. (While he may not be considered a "Texas" artist, his roots ARE in Oak Cliff.)
How about Ray Wylie Hubbard, class of '65, Lon?
Diane (Burke) Dale ('64) and Billye Sue Tichenor ('64) are both artists....I'm sure there are many others who would share their talents at an Adamson "venue."
While it may have already been considered, or it's already been done, (receiving grants/funds,) I know the Overton Blue Grass Festival couldn't do anything unless it had help from advertisers, grants, and sponsors, etc.

Your City or Town? Madisonville, texas Comments: The Caroline Belvin Literary Society/ Alpha Delta Phi, is attempting to locate a classmate Who attended Sam Houston State Teachers College, now Sam Houston State University, in 1957 and 1958, probably graduated in 1958. Her name Was Rheau Nell Duncan then. She attended Adamson High School prior to those dates and sang in a choir, or chorus. We are planning a reunion of members who attended Sam Houston in the fifties who belonged to either of the aforementioned sororities. Can you help in any way? Perhaps you have an address, and can let her know that we would like to contact her. Please contact me at the above email if you can be of assistance. Thank you sincerely. Gwen Goolsby Hendrix, class of '57 Sam Houston State teachers College.
Your City or Town? Enid, Oklahoma Comments: Right now, I plan to attend the all-alumni reunion again this year. I want to see some old friends, feel the spirit of years past and see the progress on the new school and campus. Jean, it was great to see you at the reunion last year and I am sorry you will not be there this year. You were always such a "doer" during our high school years, and you still are! Your City or Town? Enid, Oklahoma Comments: I like Mr. Miller's ideas as a central focus. Is there already an Oak Cliff Museum? If there is not, maybe we could get other groups interested, such as the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce. I could envision having substantial space for an Adamson Museum and maybe alumni from other Oak Cliff High Schools would also be interested in putting a Museum in concerning their schools as well. In other words, make it an Oak Cliff project headed up by the Adamson Alumni Association. Maybe I dream too big, but it might be a better way to raise substantial funds. Perhaps, if we could show a sustantial likelihood the project was big enough and had a credible pathway for success, DISD would just deed our Association the property or, maybe, they would to kick in substantial funds to support the project? Sometimes you can get substantial donations if you put a donor's name on some portion of the project to acknowledge their gift, etc. Just some ideas.....Norman Grey '64
Your City or Town? Grand Prairie TX Comments: With the passing of our dear classmate and friend, Dale McCaffity, we are reminded that it becomes even more important to cherish old friends. June and I will be out of town in April but I encourage everyone to attend the Annual Alumni Reunion on April 28th. What better place to gather than the halls at Adamson. Hugs to all, Jean (June) Wilson |
