Location / Place:- Irvine, Scotland Member of Lodge:- None Comments: Hello there, i am not a member of the Masons but i have just applied to join, i am 57 now and my father wanted me to join when i was late teenager, unfortunately he passed away and i lost all interest. Recently i discovered some of his Masonic memorabilia and it has re-inflamed my interest, after searching the net for a few days i have found out that the Masons seem to offer me something that i should really persue even at my age, i believe that there is always room for improvement and in order to keep improving my life i think that the time is right for me to consider what the Mason's have to offer, it just seems right for me now and i know my father will approve, in fact if i know him at all he will be pouring himself a Guinness and a black rum and pep and asking himself what took him so long.
Location / Place:- Melbourne Australia Member of Lodge:- Blackburn 915 Victorian Const. Comments: Dear Sir & Bro. Fraternal greetings from down under from & expat. of Glasgow. I am still a Life Member of Greyfriars Glasgow 1221. What a fantastic web site, congratulations to the brother/s who put it together, it is obvious that a lot of time as a labour of love & devotion went into the details. I was particularly interested in the "Auld Ludge" and the compilation degree workings put together for the ceremony. I presume it was for a 1st deg. or do you do all degrees in this format? I am secretary of a group of P.M.'s called "The Caledonians" we keep up the Scottish traditions by performing demonstrations of the 1st & 3rd degrees, although there are certain elements in our GL who would like to see the end of us. Last year they even allowed Letchworth Kilwinning No2 to hand in it's charter, it being the only Lodge in the Constitution having the permission of the Grand Master to work the Scottish Degrees in a constituent lodge. How strong is The Craft in general & MK0 in particular? I am actually giving a talk at my Scottish 18th tomorrow night on your Lodge. It is based on an article written in 1906 by D.M. Goudilock. ![]() Fraternally yours Tom Stirling PGIW
Location / Place:- London UK Comments: Dear Sirs I thank you for such an interesting insight and the history of the Mother Lodge of Scotland in Kilwinning, My father died when I was a boy of 8 years and he was a mason at the lodge in Nitshill, No 1478, I am now in my mid 40's and have wanted to know what kind of man he was, when my mother died around 1987 it was then in my old home in Nitshill I found my fathers sealed scroll of when he was raised from Apprentice passed fellow-craft to that of a sublime degree of Master Mason which was given to him at Freemasons Hall Edinburgh in the year 1961. So I have since then been interested in the good work that all the lodges do and this will in a small way bring me closer emotionally to maybe finding out more about my father and what kind of man he was as a family man and in the community, so its always a pleasure to find out the history of The Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland, this helps build up the a better picture of who he was. Many Thanks Yours peacefully Mr Stuart Weston ( Son of a Former Freemason and a loving Dad )

Location / Place:- Ladysmith, Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada Member of Lodge:- Past Master of St. John's Lodge No.21 also P.M. of Chemainus Lodge No.114 Comments: Greetings Brethren, I am a Canadian citizen and fellow Scot, having emigrated with my Wife and four children from our beloved city of birth, Edinburgh in 1964. Being an active Freemason in all the York Rite bodies of B.C. Canada and currently Secretary of the Vancouver Island York Rite College of North America and recipient of the Order of the Purple Cross. Forever searching for Masonic Light and sharing this knowledge with other enquiring Brethren. I am absolutely fascinated with the history of Scottish Freemasonry in particular that of Mother Kilwinning No.0. In 2002 I was privileged to communicate with Bro. Terry Galloway at that time Master-elect who provided me with valuable information on Sister Lodges chartered by Mother Kilwinning. It has always been a personal goal of mine to visit your well loved and renouned Lodge and I hope this may be achieved when I make a short visit to Edinburgh in the near future. Wishing you continued success in all your Masonic endeavours and enlightening web site. Thank you for this wonderful and intriguing sojourn into our Craft history. Fraternally Yours, Ken. W. Gibson OPC.
Location / Place:- Ellicott City, Maryland (outside Baltimore) Member of Lodge:- Non Member Comments: My father (deceased) was a member of the Mother Lodge back in the late 20's. His name is Joseph Cope. My father is buried in a beautifully kept cemetery in Kilwinning, along with my mother Mary Ferguson Bingham Cope. My mother was an organist at a church in Kilwinning back in the 20's. She lived on a street called Alexandra Street (or something like that) with her grandmother who worked for the Nobel dynamite factory. My mother met my father in Kilwinning. My father was born in Katesbridge County Down. How he arrived in Kilwinning I have no idea. I have an uncle (probably has passed away) by the name of William Copes who was a politician for Maybole area. I live in the USA now and will be visiting Kilwinning on August 15th this year and would love to come by and see the temple where my father was a mason. My mother and father were married in Kilwinning. My father left Kilwinning and went to the USA where he stayed for a period of 2-3 years. He came back to marry my mother whom he had been dating prior to him leaving for the USA. He returned to Scotland with tickets for them to return to the USA after they got married. He had a job as a policeman with the New York City police which were all Irishmen back in those days. My mother said NO to them going back to the USA and he never stepped foot again on USA soil. It broke my fathers heart right up till the day he passed away. I used to have the gold watch the No: 0 Mother Lodge presented to my father before he left to travel to the USA. The watch was stolen back in 1979; now that broke my heart. However, I still have my fathers Masonic Ring. I want to visit your beautiful temple when I an over in August with my wife........it is very hard for me to write this email and it brings tears to my eyes, as I loved my father dearly. He was such a good man. He played a local football team in the Kilwinning area which the name I cannot remember the name but the name Ardeer comes to my mind. God Bless you all. Colin Cope Hope to come by and see you all on Sunday August 15th.

The mallet has a selling price of $450.00 but can be negotiated. Let me know if this is something that your lodge would be interested so that I can place you in direct contact with seller. Bro. She's not quite sure when 1930's possibly his name was WILLIAM MACMILLAN. I am originally from Kilbarchan And was Robert Brown in those days and my Father Andrew Brown of St Barchans 156 lodge. Location / Place:- Riverhills Brisbane QLD 4074 Australia Member of Lodge:- COOLANGATTA TWEED DAYLIGHT SOVEREIGN COUNCIL No. 42. Comments: Fraternal Greetings again Brother secretary. I had a most enjoyable read through your lodge web site, and it never stops one being so proud to be able to say in the lodges that I visit in this big country, that the "Craft" actually started in Scotland, or at least the version we know off , after the ones from time Immemorial. The next time that I do visit "Douglas" [near Lanark] I will have to make an effort to make a visit to your Historical lodge and once again see how a Lodge should be run in the "Auld Scot'sWay". Once again congratulations to your "Webmaster" or "Webmaster's" for the excellant work they do to keep it so interesting Fraternally Yours Idris Douglas Welch. Brisbane Australia.

Location / Place:- Caledon, Ontario, Canada Member of Lodge:- Kilwinning Lodge No.565 GRC Toronto, Canada Comments: Being a newcomer to e'mail have found research into the variety of available masonic information enlightening. For years, had used a word processor for correspondence and fax for transmission, so had held out from acquiring a P.C. Now, having seen the 'light', have been able to obtain information that was previously not available to me. Visited Mother Kilwinning on previous trips back to Scotland, our last being in 2008, which were enjoyed. Hope to be back in 2010. |
