Where do you live? LaPorte Indiana Comments: My daughter and her group of friends decided that they wanted to have some pre-prom pictures taken by the waters of Lake Michigan in Michigan City Indiana. We started snapping pictures and soon noticed what appeared to be Earnest Hemmingway and crew exiting small water crafts on the shore of the lake. Much to our delight it was instead Larry and friends stopping to get water before heading off to Chicago. Larry was invited to pose for a picture with my daughter, Ashley and her best friend Val much to the envy of his friends! I have emailed you the picture, don't brag too much to your buddies! It was a pleasure meeting you Larry and hearing about all of your ongoing adventures!
Where do you live? Howell, MI Comments: My partner Renee and I were running laser speed enforcement on Fuller Rd. on a beautiful afternoon in the City of Ann Arbor, MI. As I looked down the road I noticed Coach pedaling up the sidewalk with what looked like a canoe behind his bike. I said to Renee, "Is that guy pulling a boat behind his bike?... He sure is lowering his carbon footprint." If you know anything about Ann Arbor (think Madison, WI) though you would understand how neither one of us found it to be the least bit out of the ordinary to see a guy pulling a boat behind a bike. Coach stopped and chatted with us for a few minutes and gave us the Reader's Digest version of his adventure. This was his second leg of his journey by river from Detroit to Chicago. Where do you live? On the Grand River in Delta Township MI Comments: Larry. I am the orignator of the Hugh Heward Challenge and the Ultimate Hugh Heward Challenge. I was the one who in 1989 figured out Hugh's route using his journal, my topograpohic map collection and road recon. Then in June of 1990 I got Verlen Kruger to test my theory by putting in the Huron and making it to the Grand. The portage was by Chevrolet Just yesterday as you guys were going down the Detroit River two intrepid paddlers, Neil Miller and Brian Prodin, made the first renactment of the Heward party's trek across the portage and wade through the swamp, an arduous and dangerous stunt. So now Verlen's gap has been bridged. Verlen's gravesite is right across the river from my place so I'm going to send a message his way. He would have been pleaed and he would have been with you guys on the UHHC. He and I had a lot in common, both being born in 1922, both WW II vets and both in Korea at the same time. But while he zoomed up and down the Grand at all times in all kinds of weather I mostly sat on the bank with a Coors in my hand cheering him on.

Where do you live? Wisconsin and Florida Comments: Thanks for the update, actually, thank you to Maggie for keeping us informed of your "adventures." During my annual travels, whenever I see a bicyclist on the side of the road, I wonder if it isn't Larry Hoff. Stay safe on your next venture. I'll keep looking on the website to see where you are. I'll be in the Detroit area in late May and will be thinking of you. (Not a former classmate, but mutual acquaintance from Almena).
